RightFax 9.3 Feature/Service Pack 1a Readme

This readme file provides late-breaking or other information that supplements the RightFax documentation. Feature/Service Packs are the means by which RightFax product updates are distributed from the Captaris Web site. A Feature/Service Pack may contain updates for system reliability, program compatibility, performance improvements, and more. All Feature/Service Packs are cumulative and also include all previous Hotfix updates. Each contains new fixes plus all the fixes from previous Feature/Service Packs and Hotfixes.

By the time you receive this software, updates to other RightFax software may be available. To obtain updates, go to http://www.captaris.com/support/downloads/rightfax/93/index.html.

IMPORTANT: Before installing any updates, you must back up the entire \RightFax directory structure, the fax board directory (usually the \RFBoard folder), and the SQL database for RightFax. To ensure that all necessary files are properly backed up, stop all RightFax services and close all RightFax applications before beginning the backup process.

Enhancements and New Features

Listed below are the enhancements and new features introduced to RightFax 9.3  with the addition of Feature/Service Pack 1a.

Cantata/Brooktrout Features

The addition of Feature/Service Pack 1a for RightFax 9.3 adds support for the new Brooktrout fax board models listed below. Each of these is RoHS-compliant.

  • 1034+uP4C

  • 1034+uP2C

  • 1034+uP4D

  • 1034+uP2D

  • TruFax 100-R

  • TruFax 200-R

  • Additional Cantata/Brooktrout features:

  • Support for Brooktrout 1034 fax board series plug and play driver.

  • Software platform of Fax over IP (FoIP) based on the T.38 protocol. This feature does not require a fax board and uses Brooktrout SR140 technology.

  • Support for the Cantata/Brooktrout Configuration Tool. This new tool replaces the Digital Configuration Wizard previously located in the Legacy BoardServer module.

  • Support for Physical Address Extension (PAE). This feature adds compatibility with Brooktrout TR-1034 fax boards and servers hosting Brooktrout TR-1034 fax boards containing 4GB or more RAM.

For information about licensing, installation and configuration of these new features, see the RightFax 9.3 Feature/Service Pack 1a Administrators Guide located on-line at http://www.captaris.com/support/documentation/rightfax/index.html.

  • For more information about SR140 activation, see Answer ID 4939 located on-line at the Captaris knowledge base.

    Streamlined Fax Board Configuration

The addition of Feature/Service Pack 1a for RightFax 9.3 streamlines fax board configuration by merging many of the fax board settings located previously in the legacy BoardServer Module to the DocTransport Module. All Brooktrout TR-1034-based fax boards are now configured using the DocTransport Module. Brooktrout TR-114 legacy fax boards are still configured via the BoardServer Module.

For information about these new features, see the RightFax 9.3 Feature/Service Pack 1a Administrators Guide located on-line at http://www.captaris.com/support/documentation/rightfax/index.html.

    Simple SMTP Fax Addressing

The addition of Feature/Service Pack 1a for RightFax 9.3 adds support for the new Simple SMTP Fax Addressing format while maintaining existing SMTP addressing formats. Users can now send a fax via SMTP using the following addressing format: <faxnumber>@domain.com

For example, to send a fax to the number 555-1212 via an SMTP server with a domain of RightFax.com, the address format would read:

    5551212@RightFax.com

For more information about the Simple SMTP Fax Addressing format, see the RightFax 9.3 Feature/Service Pack 1a on-line at http://www.captaris.com/support/documentation/rightfax/index.html.
