You can now view OCR text through the Captaris viewer for supported file types. * * * * * * * * * * * Documentation Errata * * * * * * * * * * * NOTES: You can view the OCR text for both built and unbuilt documents in both the Alchemy LAN and Web clients. After OCRing a file, however, you must first click off the file and then reselect it in order to activate the Text Content button to view the OCR text. Viewing OCR text is persistent from file to file as long as the files you select contain OCR text. IF you view a file that does not contain OCR text, the Captaris Viewer will switch back to Image View. To view the OCR text of a supported file type, do the following: 1. View an image file that contains OCR text in the Captaris Viewer. 2. Click the Text Content button on the Captaris Viewer toolbar. The OCR text is displayed in the Captaris Viewer. 3. If desired, select additional files to view their OCR text. 4. Click the Text Content button on the Captaris Viewer toolbar to switch back to Image View. You can print OCR text from a supported image file in both the Alchemy LAN and Web clients. To print OCR text in the Alchemy LAN client: 1. In the Tree View pane, select the database or folder where the image files whose OCR text you want to print are located. 2. In the Viewer pane, select the names of the files whose OCR text you want to print. 3. Click the Print button located on the Alchemy toolbar. 4. In the Print dialog box, click Options. 5. Select OCR from the What to Print list. 6. Click Print. NOTES: 1. You cannot print the OCR text from an image file when viewing the file in the Captaris Viewer. 2. The Save, Image and Print buttons located on the Captaris Viewer toolbar only work with the image file itself whether or not you are viewing the file's associated OCR text. To print OCR text in the Alchemy Web client: 1. Display the file whose OCR text you want to print. 2. On the Captaris Viewer toolbar, click the Text Content button to display the file's OCR text. 3. Click the Print button. 4. On the Print dialog box, click Print. NOTES: 1. Only the OCR text from the currently viewed page in a multi-page file is printed. To print the OCR text from other pages in a multi-page file, you must first view the page whose OCR text you want to print. Page 20-17 of the Alchemy 8.2 Administrator User Guide incorrectly listed the values used in the Alchemy.INI file to set the Rimage LabelType as: 0 = No Label 1 = PCL 2 = Rimage 3 = Rimage with Merge 4 = Bitmap The correct LabelType values are: 2 = No Label 3 = PCL 4 = Rimage 5 = Rimage with Merge 6 = Bitmap * * * * * * * * * * * Fixed Defects * * * * * * * * * * * Issue 001: The Alchemy 8.2 Administrator User Guide incorrectly listed the values used in the Alchemy.INI file to set the Rimage labelType. The correct LabelType values are: (56834) 2 = no label 3 = PCL 4 = Rimage 5 = Rimage with merge 6 = Bitmap Issue 002: When performing additional Folder Profile searches, Alchemy searched the folder from the previous search instead of searching the entire database. (56231) Issue 003: Alchemy Web took an exceptionally long time to populate the list view when attempting to view a folder containng a large number of CAD files. (56839) Issue 004: You could not view certain DWG files in the Captaris Viewer. (53149) Issue 005: Active Directory Nested Groups did not work within an Alchemy Integrated Security Role. (56713) Issue 006: The scroll bar appeared on the screen when using autoview to continuously view CAD files. (55999) Issue 007: You could only print in landscape mode when printing from Alchemy Web. (56860) Issue 008: The shortcut for Alchemy Search located under Start | All Programs | Alchemy did not appear when the user logged into the system was different from the user who installed the application. (57170) Issue 009: Using Launch Application to open an Adobe Illustrator file contained in an Alchemy database launched the file as a PDF, even when Adobe Illustrator was installed on the computer. (55985) Issue 010: After selecting a located search term within a document, the document view always snapped to the top. (57281) Issue 011: The right-click feature in the Alchemy Web client application was disabled. (57444) Issue 012: In Alchemy versions 8.0 and 8.2 users could not sort or move Outlook MSG files in the Tree or List views or create compound documents. (55855) Issue 013: Saving a TIFF file as a PDF file type did not actually save the file as a PDF. (55957) Issue 014: Due to changes made with the release of Alchemy 8.2 SP1 users were unable to view OCR text. (56707) Issue 015: Alchemy Server Integrated Security did not recognize the builtin Domain user group wthin Active Directory. Because of this, users were unable to access either the Alchemy LAN or Web clients. (57287) Issue 016: Saving or retrieving a file with an associated overlay created an unsupported file type that could not be displayed. (56046) Issue 017: Zooming in on a TIFF image in Alchemy Search caused the application to crash. (57568) Issue 018: Installing Alchemy version 8.2 SP1 reset the Domain account back to the original account under which Alchemy 8.2 was installed. (56573) Issue 019: Building a database with 600 MB of data to CD did not create a CD span or copy the Alchemy Search executable or Alchemy folder to the CD. (56933) Issue 020: The Alchemy Web Cache Cleanup utility did not operate correctly when configured to run automatically. (57282) Issue 021: Arc information for STEP files displayed as dots instead of a solid line. (57595) * * * * * * * * * * * Installation * * * * * * * * * * * This service pack is compatible with Alchemy 8.2 and Alchemy 8.2 SP1 and SP2. To ensure that your Alchemy 8.2 installation contains the latest updates and defect fixes you should install this service pack on any of the following computers: 1. Computers where you installed Alchemy client and server components as part of the Captaris Alchemy Content Management Suite. This includes computers where you installed Alchemy Administrator, Index Station, and Search; Alchemy Server, Alchemy Web Engine and Application. 2. Computers where you installed Alchemy Search as part of an Alchemy Gold installation with a concurrent search license. Note: If you install SP2 over an installation of Alchemy Gold 8.2 SP1 you will need to re-enter or browse to the location where you installed your Concurrent Gold Search license when prompted for its location during installation. To install the service pack: 1. Download the Service Pack executable file to a computer where Alchemy is installed. 2. Navigate to the location where you saved the service pack and double-click the execuable file to begin the installation. 3. (56250) Issue 002: Databases sorted in Alchemy Web did not appear in alphabetical order. (56301) Issue 003: You could not access databases that contained group security in Alchemy Web with Integrated Security enabled. (56357) Issue 004: The Alchemy Web PoolManager did not run if Perfmon was not created during installation. (56437) Issue 005: Indexes created for PDF files were inaccurate. (56638) Issue 006: In Alchemy Web, you could not check in a file under Library Services control using Simple Integration. (56658) Issue 007: Alchemy Gold Concurrent Search users could not simultaneously open the same database. (56721) Issue 008: Adding files with identicle file names to an Alchemy database overwrote the first file added unless the databases was built first. (55270) Issue 009: The database buffer size was automatically set to 8 MB when using Albatch to create new databases despite user settings to the contrary. (56679) Issue 010: Running the Albatch Clone command did not create a new database. (56768) Issue 011: A scroll bar appeared in the window when continuously viewing many CAD files. New database file names plus the file extension can now contain up to 64 characters except for the following special characters; asterisk ‘*’, forward slash ‘/’, colon ‘:’, semi-colon ‘;’, question mark ‘?’, and backward slash ‘\’. Path names can contain up to 8 nested directories in the path. 2. A new Date/TimeStamp data type for profile fields that allows you to enter date and time data for folders and files in your databases. 3. New OCR functionality/Search-term Hit Highlighting. Beginning in Service Pack 1, when you OCR a supported image file the OCR text will no longer be displayed under an OCR tab on the Profile pane. Instead, when you perform a search, the OCR extracted text included in your search term will be highlighted on the image files in which it is found. Note: Supported image files OCRd prior to SP1 will still use the old OCR functionality including the display of OCR text under the OCR tab on the Profile pane. However, any supported image files, including those previously OCRd, that are OCRd under SP1 will use the new OCR functionality. This means that any previously OCRd image files that you re-OCR under SP1 will no longer display the OCR tab on the Profile pane. 4. In the Alchemy Web Application Client, text extracted from supported image files during an OCR operation are highlighted in the associated image following a search (OCR text hit highlighting). * * * * * * * * * * * Documentation Errata * * * * * * * * * * * 1. The Text Content button on the Alchemy Viewer toolbar is no longer active when viewing an image file that has been OCRd using the new OCR method. 2. You should perform an OCR operation after the following: a. Editing a supported image file b. Adding, removing, or re-ordering pages in a multi-page TIFF file 3. You cannot search for text in a PDF file created using the Alchemy Scan-to-PDF feature when viewing the file in Adobe Acrobat. 4. You must build the database after performing an OCR operation in order to add the OCR text to the database index. 5. The presence of the Search Within This Document button on the Viewer pane toolbar when you view a supported image file indicates a successful OCR operation. 6. To print the OCR text after OCRing a supported image file using the new OCR method: a. In the Tree View pane, click the folder where the file is located. b. In the Viewer pane, click the file name of the image file whose OCR text you want to print. c. Click the Print button. d. On the Print dialog box, click Options. e. Select OCR from the Print What list. Click OK to close the Print Options dialog box. f. Click OK to print the OCR text file. * * * * * * * * * * * Fixed Defects * * * * * * * * * * * Issue 001: The Fit in Page print option did not work correclty when printing CAD files. (52444) Issue 002: The file size increased significantly in the print queue when printing PDF files. (52496) Issue 003: Incorrect characters were displayed when viewing certain PDF files. (52623) Issue 004: Searching for integers separated by a comma, (for example 93,31) in the Full Text search field in Alchemy Web did not highlight the entire search term when found. (52989) Issue 005: Alchemy treated a dash "-" in the database file name as an invalid DOS character. (53444) Issue 006: You could not use a BMP file as an overlay. (53513) Issue 007: You could not drag-and-drop an email with a tab character in the subjetc line from MS Outlook into an Alchemy database. (54796) Issue 008: Message (Msg) files imported from MS Outlook 2003 into an Alchemy database did not print. (55269) Issue 009: PDF files with attached overlays did not view correctly in the Alchemy Viewer. (51881) Issue 010: Characters did not display the same when viewing a PDF file in the Alchemy Viewer as opposed to Adobe Acrobat. (52935) Issue 011: Text displayed incorrectly when viewing PDF files in Alchemy Viewer. (52950) Issue 012: You could not view PDF files created by Crytal Reports in the Alchemy Viewer. (54699) Issue 013: There were errors in the Dutch translation of Alchemy. (56100) Issue 014: Changing the zoom level or viewing PDF files in thumbnail mode caused the file to view incorrectly. (55958) Issue 015: Running OCR on certain TIF files causes Alchemy Administrator to close inadvertently without any errors. (55901) Issue 016: In Alchemy Web, the wrong text was highlighted when searching the OCR full text content of a file. (51235) Issue 017: It could take as long as five minutes to view certain files in Alchemy Web.
