Bond Imaging Doubles Revenue with Workflow Automation
Captaris Workflow Speeds Turnaround Time for Customers Bellevue, Wash.—April 13, 2005—Captaris Inc. (NASDAQ:CAPA), a leading provider of Business Information Delivery solutions, today announced Bond Imaging, Australia’s largest and longest-standing
imaging lab, has deployed Captaris Workflow to automate its photo services operation.
Bond Imaging built Bond OnDemand, its sophisticated online photo processing service, on Captaris Workflow. The solution accepts
online client requests, then routes and monitors jobs from customer contact management to delivery of finished images and
printed photos. As a result, Bond Imaging has realized dramatic improvements in processing time which, in turn, have led to
a 100 percent increase in revenue for its Wedding and Portrait Division.
Bond’s previous system for handling over 500 daily Internet orders was expensive, slow and unreliable. Bond used an external,
subscription-based online system to receive jobs from customers. Routing the customer images to the Melbourne lab could take
as long as six hours, or even longer when the system went down, a common occurrence. Once the images arrived, an employee
had to import them manually into the printing software.
To replace the old system, Bond worked with Day3, a full service provider and Captaris partner based in Melbourne, to create
the fast and reliable new system powered by Captaris Workflow. The Workflow application accepts and completes the orders without
human intervention. Via e-mail, it automatically confirms receipt and sends time lapse notices to the customer. Bond benefits
from Workflow's superior .NET integration to connect easily with its current software solutions. Day3 also developed Web services
integration between Workflow and Java-based Canto Cumulus, the leading digital asset management application.
Bond credits Captaris Workflow with supporting a dramatic increase in revenue, enhancing productivity, reducing expenses,
and enabling faster job turnaround:
- Increased revenue – Bond reports a 100 percent increase in year-over-year revenue for its Wedding and Portrait Division in
the first year following the Captaris Workflow deployment.
- Productivity – Bond managers estimate that the labor required to complete imaging tasks has been cut by up to 70 percent.
Staff members once mired in data-entry tasks have been retrained to handle value-added tasks such as graphic retouching.
- Reduced expenses – “Where we’ve seen the greatest cost-saving is by reducing labor-intensive processes,” said Anthony Goddard,
Digital Services Manager for Bond Imaging. “If we were still doing the current volume with the old system, we’d have to hire
four staff members just for data-entry.”
- Faster turnaround – Completed projects are now transmitted to customers within minutes, rather than days. “Our closest competitors
are a day-and-a-half; we’re five minutes,” said Carolyn Nankervis, Sales and Marketing Manager for Bond Imaging.
- Return on Investment – “Initial estimates of ROI in 12 months are right on or ahead of schedule,” stated Goddard. Bond also
plans to integrate Captaris Workflow with its SQL database, accounting packages and bar code reading facility.
