Latvian Government Agency Delivers Weather Forecast and Emergency Information with Captaris RightFax
Automated Document Delivery is Integrated With Oracle to Streamline the Process
Bellevue, Wash. — March 13, 2007 — Captaris, Inc. (NASDAQ: CAPA), a leading provider of software products that automate document-centric processes, today announced that the Latvian Environment,
Geology and Meteorology Agency (LEGMA) is using Captaris RightFax to streamline the process of delivering time-critical forecast and emergency notifications to its customers. As a result of this faster and more reliable
delivery method, customers can react more quickly to essential information and the agency’s experts can focus more time on
their core mission and less time on document busy-work.
LEGMA’s customers, including the Latvia Defense Forces and Riga International Airport, rely on the agency for timely, accurate
data regarding weather forecasts and emergency notices. “Some customers need forecasts every two or three hours,” Harijs Baranovs,
Head of the Information Technology Department for LEGMA, explained. “And, we also must keep in mind emergency messages for
storms. We can not predict when we may need to send more than 50 emergency notifications at one time.” Delivering the notifications
used to be a complex and time-consuming paper process for the Agency’s forecasting experts who spent up to one hour manually
faxing each forecast and then making phone calls to insure receipt at the other end. LEGMA needed a faster, more efficient
and more reliable way to deliver this time-sensitive information.
LEGMA purchased RightFax from Datacom System S.A., a Captaris International Partner and Microsoft Gold Partner in Warsaw,
Poland. The employees no longer use fax machines. Now they prepare and send forecasts right from their personal computers
using RightFax to automatically deliver the documents. The RightFax Exchange Module provides each user with a centralized email inbox to send, receive and manage faxes. The RightFax Server gathers customer delivery information from the Oracle database; customers have the choice to receive
forecast documents as an email attachment, SMS message or at a fax machine. Upon receipt, an automatic delivery confirmation
is returned to the sender’s inbox. Every fax transmission is also archived for future reference.
“Now, our experts can focus on preparing forecasts and RightFax takes care of the rest,” Baranovs said. They save up to an
hour of delivery busy-work for each forecast, which leads to productivity gains and cost-savings for the company. However,
time- and cost-savings benefits are secondary to the benefits of enhanced business processes, according to Baranovs: “The
most important benefit is the improvement in the quality of the process.”
