Please Read This First This
service pack should be installed only on computers running the RightFax
8.5 VIM and MAPI printer drivers. |
This service pack should be installed on computers that are running version 8.5 of the RightFax VIM and MAPI printer drivers. Follow these steps to confirm that a computer has this version of these printer drivers installed.
From the computer desktop, navigate to C:\Program Files\RightFax. If the VIM and MAPI printer drivers are installed, this folder will contain the files faxsend.exe and prnt2fx.exe. If these files do not exist, the VIM and MAPI printer drivers have not been installed and you should not install this service pack.
If these files are present, right-click on either file and select Properties from the shortcut menu. If the Created date is earlier than July 25, 2002, the installed printer drivers are not version 8.5 and you must upgrade to version 8.5 before installing this service pack. If the Created date is July 25, 2002 or later, the installed printer drivers are version 8.5 and you should install this service pack.
To update your software, Microsoft Windows Installer will patch your existing RightFax installation by replacing existing files with updated files and installing new files. There are two components to updating the RightFax VIM and MAPI printer drivers for service pack 5:
The RightFax server installation includes a folder from which you can run the VIM and MAPI printer drivers installation on users' computers. This lets you install the RightFax VIM and MAPI printer drivers from your network without having to use the RightFax installation CD-ROM. After you have installed service pack 5 on the RightFax server, you can update the server's printer drivers installation folder using Service Pack 5 for VIM and MAPI printer drivers. You should update the install folder on the RightFax server if:
You have any network VIM and MAPI printer driver installations (minimal installations that require files from the RightFax server) or,
You intend to update RightFax client VIM and MAPI printer drivers to service pack 5 from the RightFax server or,
You intend to install new client VIM and MAPI printer drivers from the RightFax server in the future.
To update the VIM and MAPI printer drivers installation folder on the RightFax server:
Log on as an administrator to a RightFax server on which Service pack 5 has already been installed.
Select Run from the Start menu to open the Run dialog box.
Run the following command, using the correct full path to the service pack executable file and the correct path to the RightFax client folder on the server:
"[full path]\RightFax 8.50 SP5 MapiPrinter Patch.exe" /V"/a C:\Progra~1\RightFax\Client\VIMMAP~1\VIM-MA~1.Msi"
RightFax 8.5 VIM and MAPI printer driver installations on users computers can be updated in two ways:
Run Service Pack 5 for VIM and MAPI Printer Drivers directly on the client computer or,
Update the VIM and MAPI printer drivers installation folder on the RightFax server and patch a client computer from that folder.
To update a VIM and MAPI printer drivers installation using the service pack executable file:
On the computer you are updating, run the program RightFax 8.50 SP5 MapiPrinter Patch.exe that you extracted from the downloaded .zip file.
At the introductory screen, click Update. A status bar will indicate the progress of the installation.
When the installation is complete, click Finish.
To update VIM and MAPI printer drivers from the administrative install on the server
Log on to the client computer you are updating.
Select Run from the Start menu to open the Run dialog box.
Run the following command to repair the VIM and MAPI printer drivers installation, using the correct path to the RightFax client folder on the server:
