RightFax 8.5 Service Pack 5 for Administrative Utilities

This document provides late-breaking or other information that supplements the RightFax documentation. Service packs are the means by which RightFax product updates are distributed from the Captaris Web site. A service pack may contain updates for system reliability, program compatibility, performance improvements, and more. All service packs are cumulative. Each contains new fixes plus all the fixes from previous hot fix and service pack releases.

This document describes the current update to this version of the RightFax Administrative Utilities. It provides installation instructions and a brief description of problems fixed with this release.

This service pack should be installed only on computers running the RightFax 8.5 Administrative Utilities.

Identifying Computers Running the Administrative Utilities

This service pack should be installed only on computers that are running the 8.5 version of the RightFax Administrative Utilities. Follow these steps to confirm that a computer has this version of the Administrative Utilities installed.

  1. From the computer desktop, navigate to C:\Program Files\RightFax\AdmUtils. If this folder does not exist, the RightFax Administrative Utilities have not been installed and you should not install this service pack.

  2. If this folder is present, right-click on any executable file and select Properties from the shortcut menu. If the Created date is earlier than July 18, 2002, the installed administrative utilities are not version 8.5 and you must upgrade to version 8.5 before installing this service pack. If the Created date is July 18, 2002 or later, the installed administrative utilities are version 8.5 and you should install this service pack.

Installing Service Pack 5 for Administrative Utilities

To update your software, Microsoft Windows Installer will patch your existing RightFax installation by replacing existing files with updated files and installing new files.

  1. On the computer you are updating, run the program RightFax 8.50 SP5 Admin Utilities Patch.exe that you extracted from the downloaded .zip file.

  2. At the introductory screen, click Update. A status bar will indicate the progress of the installation.

  3. When the installation is complete, click Finish.

When creating a dataset that includes the current faxes, such as This Week, the Folder column of the Faxes table is not populated with a folder in the MDB file.

Unable to switch protocols when configuring a data set.

In this update, the Protocol option in the Data Set dialog box works correctly.

The Fax Reporter displays the following error:  "Error writing history record: The field is too small to accept the amount of data you attempted to add. Try inserting or pasting less."

In this update, the error does not occur.

Fax Status fails when viewing the fax channels.

Exporting users of routing type Microsoft Exchange triggers the Delete After Routing setting in the comma-delimited file (CSV).

In this update, the Delete After Routing setting is not triggered.

Unable to import a phone book from a text file if it contains groups.

In this update, the phone book imports successfully.

Printing user phone books with the command line utility, Phnprint.exe, results in incomplete data output.

New Features in Service Pack 4

The Database Rescue utility

The command-line version of Rescue.exe has been restored to the RightFax\AdmUtils folder for purposes of backward-compatibility. For documentation on running Rescue.exe from the command line, execute the command Rescue /?.

To use the rescue utilitys functions without performing the database recovery function (which may take several hours on very large databases), add the REG_DWORD value DisableRecovery to HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\SOFTWARE\RightFax\Faxserver and set the data value to 1.

The -w option in FaxAge.exe works only when used with the Main and Trash folders.

FaxStat does not display all of the database threads configured for use in the RightFax Server Control Panel application.

In this update, database threads are correctly reported in FaxStat.

The Database Rescue Utility

The database rescue utility always retains deleted faxes regardless of option setting.

In this update, the option to purge deleted faxes in the database rescue utility works as expected.
