As most of you know, last year Captaris was acquired by the Open Text Corporation. As you might expect, as we've been incorporated into Open Text, a number of changes have been made in our product offerings and the systems we use to support those offerings.
It is with that in mind, last week we announced a series of changes we are making to the former Captaris Developer Program. Many of these changes were prompted by requests from customers, but others were driven by our desire to use existing Open Text systems as much as possible. The key changes are:
- Effective December 31st, 2009, we will be shutting this portal down and asking users to migrate two other portals. If you are a paid subscriber to the Developer Program, you will be migrating to the Open Text Developer Network portal, where you will have access to the full array of development resources we have on this site. If you are a Registered (free) user of this portal, we will be asking you to create a userid on our Open Text Communities site where you will be able to interact with other developers, but not have access to developer resources such as API documentation or code samples/
- We will be moving all API documentation out of the Developer Program/Network sites and moving them to the regular product documentation areas of the Open Text Knowledge Center. We have documentation for other APIs such as our XML and Java APIs in the documentation area already and wanted to have the documentation available in a consistent manner.
- One issue we had heard a lot on was the developer editions and customers asking for ways to make them more flexible. To that end, we are making several changes to the developer editions
- We are removing the developer editions as an entitlement of the Developer Network and are allowing anyone to purchase a developer edition. Membership in the Developer Network is no longer required to obtain a developer edition of any of the products. For pricing and ordering details, please contact your authorized Open Text Fax and Document Distribution reseller.
- Developer Editions can now be in any configuration rather than the previous fixed configuration. If a customer requires a larger full featured development environment, this is now possible in the same manner that you would configure one of our other products
- Developer Editions are now permanent licenses rather than one year licenses. Previously customers who wanted to continue using a Developer Edition were required to renew their membership in the Developer Program. The new Developer Editions are permanent licenses that do not need to be renewed.
- Support Plans are now available on Developer Editions. Previously, technical support an upgrades were not available on Developer Editions. The new structure of the Developer Editions allows customers to purchase an Open Text Standard Support plan for their Developer Editions and receive the full range of benefits that the support plans provide.
- The Developer Editions are now available for the current versions of all products. This includes Open Text Fax Server, RightFax Edition 9.4, Open Text Document Server, Alchemy Edition 8.3 and Open Text Workflow Server, .NET Edition 6.5
Complete details of the new Developer network can be found at http://faxsolutions.opentext.com/common/files/Data_Sheet_FDDG_Developer_Program_proof.pdf
Instructions for migrating your account
If you have a paid subscription to the Open Text Developer Program on this site, you can use your Open Text Knowledge Center account to access the new Open Text Developer Network site. fddgdeveloper@opentext.com and we will verify your membership and email you a link to the new portal. If you don't already have a userid on the Open Text Knowledge Center, there are links on the right side of the page to request them.
If you are a registered (free) subscriber to the Developer Program, you can continue interacting with other developers in the Fax Server forums on the Open Text Communities site. Create a userid on the Communities site (free and open to all), and then follow the link here to the Fax Server Forums. The Fax Server Forums, in spite of their name, apply to Open Text Document Server and Open Text Workflow Server as well.If you have questions about these changes, feel free to post questions in this thread or email us at fddgdeveloper@opentext.com
